Spyware
Software which sends personal data of the user without whose knowledge or even consent to the manufacturer of the software or to third parties is normally described as a Spyware. Spyware is often used to offer products apparently free of charge.
The spyware programs usually serve to analyze the surfing behavior on the Internet to use these data commercially or to display advertising banners or pop-ups specifically which are adapted to the interests of the user. The companies hope for an increase of the effectiveness of these advertising methods from this. To avoid trouble with jurists, many computer programs mark these software components as possibly unwanted software with anti Spyware functions.
Spyware also is programmed by enterprises unlike the viruses which engage whole development departments to do the programming of spyware. This Spyware thus also has a very high technical standard. Spyware protects itself against deletion through this, that several processes which open a new and copy themselves at completion just again run at the same time, for example. They withdraw the write and with that the deleting right etc. from for example the administrator on the hard disk.
Another problem arises by the fact that Spyware can create additional security holes in a system against which there then aren't any software updates either.
Due to these procedures it is made difficult extremely for a technically experienced user itself to rid itself of this Spyware. Since the problem Spyware was ignored by the common Antivirensoftware manufacturers for a long time, there is not de facto any really well operating antispyware today.
