The sixth largest town of India and the economic center in Gujarat is Ahmedabad with 3,724,300 inhabitants.
Story of Ahmedabad
The history Ahmedabads starts with King Karandev I., a Solanki ruler. He waged war against the King Ashapall of the Bhil. Karandev named its city of Karnavati. Gujarat came 1411 under the rule of sultan Ahmed Shah who renamed the town in Ahmedabad. The town on the shore of the Sabarmati increased to it soon and a city wall was set up with twelve gates around it. During this time, the trade flourished with textiles which were exported to Europe. The armies of Raghunath Rao and Damadschi Gaekwad conquered the town later and sealed the end of the power of the Moguln over Ahmedabad so. A famine and the common power of Paeshwa and Gaekwad were almost the decline of the town. It was taken on by the British East India company 1818. A railroad connection and a municipal authority were soon afterwards established.
In 1915 mahatma Gandhi sat down after low its return from South Africa in Ahmedabad and founded the Gandhi Ashram on the shore of the Sabarmati. It started from here against the British colonial power of its Ashram to down to the coastal village of Dandi with its peaceful protest march in 1930 to protest the introduction of a salt tax. It didn't swear to sweep back to the Ashram before the march sooner than not India has achieved its independence, it didn't return. Ahmedabad becomes capital of the state of Gujarat after the independence 1947 finally achieved. By a government reform in 1970 Ahmedabad was graded down to the district capital and the state government evacuated to the 30 kilometers north situated satellite town Gandhinagar by the state capital.
