This changed suddenly with the conquest by Aga Mohammed Khan, the founder of the Kadscharendynastie in 1795 which made Teheran the Persian capital. By the year 1800 one calculated about 15,000 inhabitants.
The Kadscharenherrscher Nasireddin shah maximized the original municipal area around fivefold during his rule and created a city wall. One counted about 250,000 inhabitants in 1900. Teheran became the largest town of Persia with that, caused also by the strong centralization of the country. The town was maximized again, a freeway built and the old Kadscharenansiedlungen leveled crossways by the town under the Pahlavi.
The war conference of Churchill, Wilson and Stalin was important at the time of November 28th until December 1st, 1943.
One counted already 4.5 million inhabitants in 1976. It came in the context of the Islamic revolution in Teheran in 1979 to disturbances in whose course the embassy of the USA was also occupied. One counted approx. 6.8 million inhabitants in 1996.
The population should have increased to 14 million by the migration from the land meanwhile. After the earthquake in Iran 2004 a shift of the seat of government was thought about for the first time from Teheran to a less vulnerable to seismic shock region.
