The capital and the seat of government of the United States of America is Washington. The town is named after George Washington, the leader of the independence movement and first president of the USA.
Story of Washington
The first capital after the ratification of the constitution was New York. George Washington has filed the oath of office as the first president of the United States on the balcony of the old city hall.
It was one of the topics with which the president had to deal to find a permanent seat of government. It was decided as a compromise solution to make Philadelphia 1791 the capital for ten years and then to look around for a permanent space at the Potomac River.
